The first impression the Baishui River
(baishuihe) leaves on travelers is the limpid water. The source of the river is the melting snow on the nearby mountain, and after undergoing a process of filtration on the nearby rocks, the water pours into the river a gorgeous clear color. Trees grow along either side of the riverbed while a little further away snow-capped peaks stand imposingly against the sky. It is possible to travel upriver either on foot or by horseback from here.

With
a history of over 800 years, Dayan Town is one of the few places in
China with well-preserved old style folk buildings. Consequently, this
area has become known as the "Second Suzhou".
With the famous Sifang Road (which
literally means four directions in Chinese) at its core, roads here are
mostly paved with stone boards, an ingenious approach developed in
ancient times by local people to save cleaning efforts!
Another feature of the area are the
numerous streams and brooks crisscrossing the houses. Sifang Road
is also the site of a major bazaar. Local residents visit the market to
stock up on necessities such as meat, vegetables, oil and herbal
medicine e but if visitors fortunate, they may come across some
interesting and unusual antiques.
