Hong
Kong not only has the best in entertainment facilities and nightlife
in China, but a collection which can compete with any international
metropolis. Hong Kong's bar and club scene is varied, offering a
selection of places to cater to all tastes.
There are some great Hotel Bars for those
who like to indulge and be pampered, and the area around Lan
Kwai Fong is trendy and hip to the scene, bursting with life all
through the night. Kowloon too, has some nice bars to drink in,
offering a more relaxed alternative to the Island's drinking
spots.
The club scene here is hard to pin down.
Hong Kong has attracted some big names including Judge Jules and Dave
Seamen, but the "in" place to go changes all the time and
the best club nights tend to be at irregular venues. Things change at
an incredible pace here however, and what's fashionable today is out
tomorrow.
The best way to stay in touch and find
out what's on is to get a copy of the Hong Kong Magazine from
one of the bars or restaurants around town.
Drinking and partying aside, Hong Kong
also has some great culture and art to offer. The Hong
Kong Cultural Center and Art Museum has a splendid selection of
theatre and art from throughout the world. Check out what's on here as
there are often performances by world famous artists or actors.
There are also some good independent art
galleries around town- look in the South China Morning Post for
details about exhibitions. Canto pop is really big in China at the
moment and Hong Kong plays host to some of the biggest Cantonese and
Japanese stars on a regular basis. Jazz music is also good here ( a
legacy of the colonial period) and big name stars pop up all over the
city in places like the Jazz
Club. Hong Kong is also known for its film.
There are numerous cinemas scattered
throughout the city. Most of the big ones present the latest films
from the west. There are also a few smaller film houses specializing
in Hong Kong film and art house movies. Again, check out the local
paper for what's on and where.
Hong Kong is also a great place to get
some exercise! There are fabulous walks around The
Peak, and the outlying islands such as Lamma
offer invigorating walks, fresh air and clean sea. Many of Hong Kong's
parks also have nice pools where you can swim and you can't miss the
gyms here - check out the " get fit" kids exercising their
muscles in the windows on Nathan Road!
